Beginner Questions

Yes! Most of our guests try diving for the first time here in the Maldives.

You don’t need any certification to start. We begin with a simple briefing, explain how the equipment works, and then practice in shallow water before going for a real dive.

Your instructor stays with you the entire time, so you’re never alone underwater.

If you’ve never dived before, the best way to start is with a Try Dive experience.

Yes! As long as you dive with a professional team and don’t rush.

We choose dive sites based on your level – calm water, good visibility, and no stress. Before the dive, we go through everything step by step so you know exactly what to expect.

No surprises underwater – and that’s what makes it safe.

Nope! You don’t need to be a strong swimmer.

If you’re comfortable in water and can stay relaxed, that’s enough. The equipment does most of the work, and your instructor stays right next to you.

It happens 🙂 You’re using new equipment, in a new environment, doing something completely new – so a bit of stress at the beginning is totally normal.

That’s why we don’t rush. You can stop at any moment, take a breath, hold onto the instructor, or go up slowly.

Most people relax very quickly once they realise they can breathe normally underwater.

Safety & Conditions

Yes! And that’s exactly why diving here is so good.

Currents bring in sharks, manta rays, and all the big stuff people come to see.

But beginners don’t dive in strong currents. We simply go to different sites where it’s calm and easy.

No! You’ll most likely see reef sharks, and they’re not interested in people at all.

They keep their distance and just cruise by. For most divers, it’s actually one of the best moments of the dive.

Usually up to about 10–12 meters.

That’s more than enough to see everything – corals, fish, small sharks, turtles – while still staying shallow and comfortable the whole time.

Marine Life in Maldives

Yes! especially in the right season.

We have access to manta cleaning stations near Thoddoo, and when conditions are right, sightings are very regular.

Of course, it’s wildlife, not a zoo, nothing is guaranteed – but chances are good.

Whale sharks aren’t really common around Thoddoo, they are usually found in South Ari Atoll.

We organise trips there specifically to look for them. It’s a full-day experience, but definitely worth it if seeing a whale shark is on your list. Check our Excursion page.

Every dive is different, but usually you can expect:

  • reef sharks
  • turtles
  • stringrays
  • eagle rays
  • moray eels
  • manta rays
  • lots of reef fish

And sometimes – the unexpected stuff that makes the dive special: Whale shark! 🙂
